The researches of the Acrophobia:

Defination: Acrophobia is a mental health condition in which the individual experiences an intense fear of heights. It's a type of anxiety disorder. A person with acrophobia experiences intense fear and anxiety when they think of tall heights or are positioned at a significant height.








Psychology Experiment ---- Visual Cliff:

The Visual Cliff is an apparatus created by psychologists Eleanor J. Gibson and Richard D. Walk at Cornell University to investigate depth perception in human and animal species. The visual cliff consisted of a sheet of Plexiglas that covers a cloth with a high-contrast checkerboard pattern. On one side the cloth is placed immediately beneath the Plexiglas, and on the other it is dropped about four feet (1.2 m) below. This experiment demonstrates that fear of heights appears to be at least partially ingrained and may be an evolutionary survival mechanism.



Symptoms:


  • Emotional Symptoms

When the patient feels like they are high off the ground, the patient may instinctively start looking for something to hold on to and find that you cannot trust your sense of balance.


  • Physical Symptoms

The patient may begin to shake, sweat, experience heart palpitations, and even cry or yell. The patient becomes thinking about anything.


  • Anxiety & Avoidance

Patients may be concerned that the upcoming vacation will put them in a hotel room on a high floor. Patients may also be afraid to use ladders and give up home repairs.



Therapy Methods:


  • Psychotherapy

Frequently used behavioral techniques may gradually (systemic desensitization) or rapidly (flood) expose you to fearful situations. , and teach patients how to stop panic reactions and regain emotional control.

  • Exposure

Traditionally, actual exposure to height is the most common solution. And some research suggests that virtual reality could be just as effective.

  • Relax

Doing yoga, deep breathing, meditation, or progressive muscle relaxation can help you deal with stress and anxiety. Exercise can also help.
